    Governor Gavin Newsom And Courageous California Legislative Leaders Make The Grade As Champions Of Student Success

    Today, January 19th, the Campaign for College Opportunity will honor seven California leaders at the 2021 Legislative Dean’s List Reception in a virtual celebrationThe Legislative Dean’s List recognizes and honors state leaders whose efforts were fundamental to guiding and securing student-centered policies aimed at increasing college access, affordability, and student success in 2021.

    The seven honorees have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to closing racial equity gaps, increasing college opportunity, and fostering a higher education system that truly serves all Californians.

    WHAT: The Campaign will host a virtual, one-hour celebration acknowledging the exemplary efforts of some of the state’s top legislative leaders.

    WHO: The Campaign for College Opportunity and the following honorees:

    • California Governor Gavin Newsom – Distinction in Higher Education Vision & Investment 
    • Assemblymember Marc Berman (AD-24) – Distinction in Transforming Transfer
    • Lorena Gonzalez, former Assemblymember (AD-80) – Distinction in Courageous Pandemic Response
    • Senator Ben Hueso (SD-40) – Distinction in Providing Pipelines to College Opportunity
    • Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (AD-44) – Distinction in Statewide Higher Education Leadership
    • Senator Connie Leyva (SD-20) – Distinction in Expanding College Access for All
    • Jeanice Warden-Washington, Chief Consultant for the Assembly Higher Education Committee – Distinction in Student-Centered Policy Design
