Holiday Events Spread Across Ventura County

*Editor’s Note: As we face devastating fires across our lovely county we wish to bring you a little Holiday Cheer.  We can all use some.

As we all know, the holidays are upon us with dizzying speed. Blink and you might miss something fun and festive. Citizens Journal would like to give you some ideas as to how to celebrate your holidays. So, get out your calendar. There are lots of holiday activities. These are just a sample of what’s going on in your city. Like Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve, away we go:


  • Thursdays, November 30 until December 21, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

      Venue: The Oaks, Thousand Oaks

To help ‘tide shoppers over through the holidays’, the Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market Association (VCCFMA) is partnering with the Oaks Shopping Center to offer a four week long special event, “Holiday Boutique Mini Farmers’ Market.”  The market will take place on November 30, December 7, December 14 and December 21 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. inside the Outdoor Village courtyard area of the mall located on the bottom level between Muvico and the main inside door entrance.


  • December 6, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

      Venue: Cal Lutheran | Lundring Events Center

The Hillel Club holds its traditional Hanukkah party with fun activities and a social justice theme. The service will be followed by a meal. Admission to the service is free. Cost of dinner is $15.   • December 6, 11, 13, 18

      Venue: Camarillo Ranch

The Camarillo Ranch presents its annual Santa Nights on December 6, 11, 13 and 18 at 201 Camarillo Ranch Road. Take your child’s photo with Santa & Mrs. Claus in the 1892 Camarillo Ranch House and visit Santa’s Workshop in the Red Barn.  $5 admission per adult. Parking is free.

  • December 7, 11:25 a.m.

Venue: Cal Lutheran | Samuelson Chapel

The ceremony of Sankta Lucia pays homage to the Christian martyr who died at the stake on Dec. 13, 304 A.D. Undergraduate students select five female and five male representatives whose depth of character and faith make them leaders in the Cal Lutheran community. Lucia, her attendants and their escorts enter to an ancient hymn and read an adaptation of the legend. Attendants then light the candles in Lucia’s crown. Admission is free.   • December 7, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

      Venue: Tower Club at the Esplanade

The Tower Club and FOOD Share of Ventura County will present Christmas with Elvis from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at 300 E. Esplanade Drive. The evening will feature a performance by Elvis tribute artist, Michael Raymond, a Memphis-style BBQ buffet, a raffle for a free trip to Graceland, and classic Elvis holiday tunes.       Venue: Ventura College Performing Arts Center

Ventura County Ballet Company, Ventura County’s premiere regional ballet will perform Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard on December 2 and 3 at 2 p.m. and again at the Ventura College Performing Arts Center, 4700 Loma Vista on December 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and December 9 and 10 at 2 p.m. Enjoy the holiday magic of The Nutcracker with the whole family!   • December 8 through January 2

      Venue: Plaza Park, Downtown Ventura

Holidays at the Plaza runs from December 8 through January 2 at Plaza Park. These events will begin at 6:00 p.m. Dec. 8 with free screenings of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Polar Express”  and a Candy Cane Forest featuring more than 160 live, decorated, twinkling trees throughout the park. Santa’s Workshop holiday boutique will happen from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dec. 9 and will include photos with Santa for children and pets. A Silent Night Disco will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 15. Guests will enjoy food trucks, a beer garden, music and dancing while wearing wireless headphones. Tickets are $20 at Breakfast with Santa will be from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Dec. 16.   • December 9, 10:00 a.m.

      Venue: Downtown Camarillo

The 56th Annual Camarillo Christmas Parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, starting at Las Posas and Temple Avenue, the parade travels west on Las Posas and then takes a left on Carmen Drive.  The parade will end at the Camarillo Community Center at 1605 E.   • December 9, Noon to 8:00 p.m.

      Venue: Channel Islands Harbor

Channel Islands Harbor kicks off the holidays with its 52nd annual holiday Parade of Lights, scheduled from noon – 8:00 p.m., Dec. 9, with the parade beginning at 7:00 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “Fairy Tales Afloat.” Beginning at noon, families can play in 36 tons of snow falling at the north end of Harbor View Park, off Harbor Blvd. near Marine Emporium Landing, 3600 Harbor Blvd. For more information, visit


  • December 9, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

      Venue: Jewelry Couture, Ventura

Jewelry Couture will be hosting a fundraising event to support the Ventura Police K9 Unit on December 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The business is located at 390 S. Mills Road in Ventura. A portion of the sales during that time frame will be donated to the Ventura Police K9 Unit. The community is invited to meet the K9s and handlers and support the effort. The K9 meet and greet will take place between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. with a K9 demonstration beginning at 2:00 p.m.


  • December 9, 5:30 to 11:00 p.m.

      Venue: Pierpont Inn Wyndham Garden

The Barrelhouse Wailers and The Pierpont Inn Wyndham Garden Ventura will host the Salvation Army’s Holiday Gala from 5:30-11:00 p.m. Dec. 9 at 550 Sanjon Road.   • December 10, 8:00 a.m.

      Venue: Oxnard Santa

The 10th annual Santa to the Sea Half Marathon and 5K will take place at 8:00 a.m. Dec. 10. The half marathon begins at the giant Santa at 2801 Ventura Blvd., and ends at Marine Emporium Landing in the Channel Islands Harbor. This event also will feature a two-person relay and a kids 1K run. Santa to the Sea raises money to award scholarships to local students. A portion of registration fees funds the Santa to the Sea Scholarship Fund. For more information or to register, visit


  • December 10, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

      Venue: Oxnard Performing Arts Center

The Footworks Youth Ballet presents two full-length performances of the Christmas classical ballet THE NUTCRACKER, performed with The Footworks Community Orchestra and singers from the Carpe Diem Chorus. A free family educational lecture and story time will begin one hour prior to the performance time.

      Venue: Ronald Reagan Library

Celebrate this magical season with your family and friends at our 10th annual Holiday on the Hill event. Tour the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum and Titanic at the Reagan Library from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Enjoy an incredible holiday dinner buffet, hot cider, and warm cookies under the wings of Air Force One. Have your picture taken with Santa to commemorate this special holiday. This all-inclusive offer is $66.50 for adults and $36.50 for children ages 3-10 years old (under 3 are free).       Venue: The Shoppes at Westlake

The Shoppes at Westlake Village Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long is planned for Sunday, December 10th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Presented with the City of Westlake Village. This is a family-friendly event that will include photos with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, a Toy Drive with Casa Pacifica, Balloon installations and balloon tying, cookie + cupcake decorating, giveaways, caroling, and a Sing-A-Long presented by the City of Westlake Village highlighting the Westlake Village community and local businesses.

      Venue: Camarillo Community Center Auditorium

Camarillo Community Band Christmas Concert featuring The Camarillo Community Band, sponsored by Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District, will perform its annual Christmas Concert at 4:00 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Camarillo Community Center Auditorium at 1605 Burnley St. Admission is free.   • December 10, 5:30 p.m.

      Venue: Olivas Adobe

The public is invited to experience what the holidays were like in late 19th century Ventura with a free Holiday Candlelight Tour of the City of Ventura’s historic Olivas Adobe, located at 4200 Olivas Park Drive – on Sunday, December 10, 2017, first tour begins at 5:30 p.m. Tours are free, however, registration is required and space is filling fast. 11th annual Holly Trolley Tours departs from Centennial Plaza. Climb aboard a grand double-decker for a 50-minute guided tour of Downtown and the Historic District’s spectacular display of holiday lights and décor. Venue: Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center

Port Hueneme Community Volunteers and REACH are pleased to announce the 2017 Senior Holiday Luncheon and Boutique December 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center located at 550 Park Avenue in Port Hueneme.  This event is open to Seniors in Port Hueneme and surrounding areas. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center.


  • December 12, 5:00 p.m.

      Venue: Dos Vientos Town Center, Newbury Park

Giant Ice Menorah Lighting Event in Newbury Park on December 12th. Chanukah Fire on Ice. The “coolest” Menorah Lighting will be held in The Village town center in Dos Vientos, December 12th, 5:00 p.m. as a sculptor carves a giant ice menorah which will then be lit as part of the annual outdoor family-oriented event hosted by Chabad of Newbury Park. The Fire on Ice Chanukah celebration will feature an Illusionist show, live music, children’s activities, Latkes and doughnuts and the Great gelt drop. The event is free of charge and open to people of all ages.


  • December 15, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

      Venue: Ventura Military Collaborative

The mission of the Ventura County Military Collaborative, VCMilC is to inspire, strengthen, support, as well as promote the Military and Veteran community of Ventura County through collaboration, programs, and direct assistance. Their annual drive to bring holiday cheer to our Military community begins in December. DONATE TOYS & GIFTS: Ventura County Military Collaborative, VCMilC is able to make so many families’ Christmases “merry & bright” because of all the toys that are donated for the event.       Venue: Ventura Harbor

Ventura Harbor celebrates the season with its 41st Annual Holiday Parade of Lights & Fireworks on Friday, December 15th and Saturday, December 16th starting at 6:30 p.m. This year’s parade will celebrate 100 years of our national parks. The two-day fun filled event includes a carnival, seaside shopping and dining followed by the lighted boat parade at 6:30  p.m. and fireworks show at 8:00 p.m. Parking and admission are free.   • December 16, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

      Venue: Chaparral Auditorium, Ojai

The Humane Society of Ventura County will present its 6th annual Purrs & Paws Holiday Boutique and Vintage Market from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Chaparral Auditorium, 414 E.   • December 16-17, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Venue: Moorpark College Teaching Zoo

On December 16th and 17th, 2017, America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will be hosting its annual Arctic Lights event from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entry fees are $8 for adults, $6 for children 2-12 and seniors and free for ages under 2. Bring in a string of working LED lights and receive a free adult admission for that day. For an extra $7 per person guests can tour the back areas and interact with some of the animals. Back stage tours are limited to 15 guests. Located at 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark.


  • December 17, 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

      Venue: The Ojai Foundation

The Ojai Foundation will host a Winter Solstice Celebration from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Dec. 17 at 9739 Ojai Santa Paula Road. This annual tradition with the community of Ojai will feature a sunset ceremony and live music. The goal is to celebrate the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, with music, beauty, ceremony, and light. A community potluck dinner will be served. This event is put together by the community of The Ojai Foundation, its staff, and its volunteers. Offerings for this event are based on a sliding scale fee of $10 to $100 per person.       Venue: Fillmore & Western Railroad

  • December 24 – 25

      Venue: Santa Barbara Zoo

The Zoo is open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so come spend some holiday time with your animal friends at the Santa Barbara Zoo! General Admission until 2:30 p.m. SB Zoo Member Admission until 3:00 p.m.  Zoo closes at 3:30 p.m. The Santa Barbara Zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., general admission $17 for adults, $13 for seniors 64+, $10 for children 2-12, and free for children under 2. Parking $7.
