HOT News from the Oxnard Salsa Festival – The WINNERS!
By Janis Flippen & George Miller
Last week’s Oxnard Salsa Festival (event web site) was very fine, as always. It seemed like there were fewer Salsa booth entries, but we enjoyed them all- no bad ones.
The awards, listed below by Janis Flippen, had so many different categories that almost everyone won something. But seriously- with all the varieties- hot, mild, red, green, fruited, specialty- or amateurs to pro’s- these categories were needed. You really can’t compare a hot, spicy mouthburner chili to a mango-strawberry confection. We tried and failed.

As excellent as the salsa selection was (food booths, too!), the variety and quality of the dance acts- on two stages-was amazing. The Saturday programs only showed a few events, but in reality, every few minutes, a new act hit the main stage while we were there, most of them by dance schools or clubs. Good music too- some canned, but also had on Saturday Lili Hernandez, Chino Espinoza y Los Duenos Del Son & Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca.

On Sunday, the stage lineup was: Conjunto Afro Son, Dancing with Our Community Stars, Son Mayor & Orquesta Tabaco y Ron
On Friday night, Cecilia Noll and the Wild Clams performed: http://oxnardsalsafestival.com/friday-night-kick-off-concert-details/
The smaller “Community stage” had a pretty good lineup, too. We saw a kid’s act followed by belly dancers. Here was the schedule of performances: http://oxnardsalsafestival.com/community-stage/
