I got this call ….
By Debra Tash
I got this call. Now I get a lot of calls, dosage mostly trying to sell me something, pilule or get me to donate to something. The word SUCKER must be written next to my name in a long lost phone book. And then this call came from Kevin McCarthy’s campaign. Scratching my head, and pausing a pregnant moment, I had to sort through the neurons to place Kevin McCarthy. Of all things he’s the majority whip in the House. That’s when my temper boiled, and it can boil over worse than a pot left simmering unwatched on the stove. In a strained voice I asked, “He’s the Republican Majority Whip in the House from Bakersfield, right?” The answer was a timid, “Yes.” My response, “You have got to be kidding.”
I got the call on the day the House passed a one trillion dollar spending bill. This is responsible government? This is something I want to see go on? One trillion dollars and they managed to still shortchange military pensions. Give me a break. This isn’t my party anymore. The Republican establishment has pretty much given the conservative base the proverbial finger. So now, it’s time to either retake the party or take a hike. I may not agree with a lot on the other side of the aisle, but I have to admire them for not stepping on their base, at least not out in the open. They know how to message, and message they do, marketing and playing the game like pros. The Republicans take their bat and have tried to bludgeon theirs.
So what did I do with the fund raiser on the other end of the line, this innocent bystander in the open war on conservatives. I said, “After that budget, it’s enough already. Please don’t call me again.” Of all things, she closed the conversation by saying, “I really do understand.” At least she was willing to listen.

How did McCarthy vote might be the operative question to be asked. California republicans politicians can be strange birds. Some of them, if they would be honest, should declare themselves progressive democrats. Certainly we’ve seen this in Arnold as the governator. But some of them are also truly Conservatives. The litmus test is their voting record.
Well, Tom McClintock and Dana Rohrabacher voted against it. Perhaps that brings you some solace…or not.
