In-Person Visiting to Resume in County Jails

Due to COVID-19, both county jails suspended in-person visiting in March 2020. With conditions generally improving throughout the county, the time has come to lift the visiting suspension with appropriate COVID protections.

In-person visiting will resume on Monday, November 2, 2020. Schedules have been created for both the Main Jail and Todd Road jails, which allow for social distancing between visitors. Visiting areas will be sanitized between visiting groups and all visitors and inmates will be required to wear a facemask during the entire visit.

To maximize visiting space while providing for greater social distancing, the visiting schedules have been completely reworked. These schedules differ significantly from those prior to the pandemic, so please check online for the latest days and hours of operation. Schedules can be easily found here: www.venturasheriff.org/inmate-information/visiting-information/

To allow for cleaning, visitors will be allowed inside in hourly intervals with all visits lasting no longer than 30 minutes. This will allow time for cleaning before the next group. Visitors are expected to check in with the deputy at the public reception lobby and should do so early so that waiting lists can be fairly maintained. To be granted a visit, all visitors must check in before the cut-off times, which are listed on the website. Visitors are expected to wear a mask indoors, follow social distancing markers in the seating areas and respect the social distance of other visitors.

All efforts have been made to maximize visiting opportunities while also maintaining safety for visitors and inmates. Despite this, visiting demand may be high, and some visitors may not be accommodated. Video visitation continues to operate normally and should be considered a viable alternative for those who are unable to wait or who may be at higher risk from COVID exposure.
