Inmate Death at Pre-Trial Detention Facility
Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On 5/19/2020, at approximately 7:05 AM, deputies at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility discovered 20 year old Carlos Lozano alone and unresponsive in his cell. Deputies immediately began to render aid and summoned jail medical staff. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel also responded to provide more advanced care. Ultimately, Mr. Lozano was pronounced deceased at 7:42 AM.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates all inmate deaths.
