Inmate death at Todd Road Jail

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On 11/28/2019, at approximately 8:22 PM, 50 year old Camarillo resident, Lance Hays was discovered unresponsive in his cell at the Todd Road Jail. Deputies rendered aid and summoned jail medical staff. Ventura County Fire and American Medical Response personnel also responded to provide more advanced care. Ultimately, Mr. Hays was pronounced deceased at 9:00 PM.

The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates the causes of all inmate deaths.
