Iran nuclear agreement ‘reached’ – diplomats in Vienna

Citizens Journal staff compilation of 3rd party news reports

According to BBC and other news organizations tonight, an Iran nuclear agreement was ‘reached’ – per unnamed diplomats in Vienna. Reputedly, inspectors could challenge Iran sites, but IranNukeSitesthey do no have to be allowed access to inspect them. We have not seen a formal announcement from the principals, although Obama is said to have said it was a good agreement in an address from the White House.

Iran would not have to dismantle sites, but would reduce centrifuge equipment significantly and  cut its stock of low-enriched nuclear material by 98%.

In return for these concessions,  sanctions on Iran would be lifted in phases, although the conditions are not known to us at this time.

We understand that this is only a framework of an agreement and that much more work is still required on it. It is unknown how Congress will react to this and whether the agreement has enough substance at this time to be executable.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Such a deal would not block Iran’s path to the bomb. It would pave it,” he said in a statement. “It would increase the risks of nuclear proliferation in the region and the risks of a horrific war.”

Presidential primary candidate Donald Trump said over the weekend that “Iran’s negotiators are much smarter than ours” and that ours are “stupid.”

Iran has continued to maintain that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
