Jury Reaches Verdict in Santa Paula Attempted Murder Case

On Friday July 20, 2018, a jury for the Ventura County Superior Court reached a verdict in the case of Eric Medrano (26 years old) of Santa Paula. Medrano was charged with attempted murder stemming from a shooting which occurred in July of 2015. Medrano is a documented gang member with numerous prior arrests for weapons, possession of narcotics and various other violations. The jury returned a guilty verdict and found Medrano had committed the attempted murder and the act was for the betterment of his criminal street gang. Medrano will be sentenced in September. ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE: On July 18, 2015 at approximately 2:47 AM, officers responded to the area of Ojai Road and High St. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located three gunshot victims. Through investigation it was determined a confrontation occurred when the party bus was allowing people to exit the bus. During the confrontation a shooting occurred with the suspects fleeing the area in a vehicle. While investigating the scene it was reported from local hospitals that two additional subjects had been shot bringing the total number of victims to five. The victims are all males ranging in age 20 to 35 years. At this time the incident appears to be gang related and the investigation is ongoing.
