Just Serve uniting Volunteers to fill needs in the Simi Valley community

When is the last time you volunteered or thought about volunteerism?  Volunteerism is a basic expression of human relationships. It is about people’s need to participate in their societies and to feel that they matter to others. Social relationships intrinsic to volunteer work are critical to individual and community well-being.  Volunteerism is the capacity of people to exercise choices to set and achieve community objectives, which can result in real improvements that benefit others as well as the volunteer.  Just Serve Helping Hands, community-based volunteer day sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and JustServe.org, will host hundreds of willing hands to help their hometown community in Simi Valley on April 23rd, 2016.

Simi Valley will be working on several needs in our community April 23rd, such as:

Arroyo Simi (Simi Creek) – Madera and Easy Street 41 Moreland Rd Simi Valley, CA 93065 off Madera Rd, 8:00am – 11:00am, Gloves and buckets will be provided by the City of Simi Valley.  Volunteers should be able to walk over rough terrain, pick up trash, small objects and carry them to a trash dumpster.  Each volunteer will need to complete a waiver before participation.  Waivers will be available ahead of time or at the cleanup site the morning of the event.

JustServe.Org, is a means to unite communities with those wanting to serve.  It matches faith, nonprofit, community and governmental organizations that need volunteers with individuals and families willing to help.   JustServe.org links to service opportunities in various communities so one can make a difference wherever they are and however one wants to serve.    “Serving together to help meet the needs of our fellow community members has a way of bringing meaning and purpose to our own lives” states Dave McClellan, Simi Valley Stake JustServe Committee Chairman,  “I believe that the JustServe organization provides each of us with an great opportunity to make a difference.”

Individual efforts don’t need to be huge – a little bit of change here, a few hours there – but even small efforts quickly add up to make a real difference.

Just  go to http://www.JustServe.org, and register, and click on the project you would like to become involved.  You will, be contacted by the project coordinator.  There are other projects listed that do not fall on April 23rd you are invited to participate in either one time or ongoing support.
