Kevin McCarthy:  ‘The opportunity is right to take California back’

By Michael Hernandez

ANAHEIM– The opportunity is right to take California back,” said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy at the Saturday GOP Annual Convention luncheon at the Mariott.

“What a difference nine months and one election makes?  Who would have known that if Donald J. Trump won, the Dow Jones would hit an all-time high and break the 23,000 mark and that we would have 1.2 million new jobs with unemployment at an all-time low.

“One of his greatest accomplishments in the first couple months is changing the Supreme Court.  When (Neil) Gorsuch was announced, he became the most qualified, most educated (justice) to serve on the Supreme Court and he makes his decisions on the Constitution.”

The House Majority Leader along with Vice President Mike Pence just completed a three-day tour of California that raised five million dollars.

McCarthy, 52, (R-CA 23rd District since 2013; and 22nd District from 2007-2013) represents Bakersfield (and includes larges sections of Kern and Tulare ounties)  and was formerly chairman of the California Young Republicans and the Young Republican National Federation before serving in the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2006.

McCarthy, showed luncheon attendees a power point that showed how under President Trump, the House had gotten more bills out of committee and passed to the U.S. Senate than any recent administration before those potential bills had gotten stalled in the Senate.

The House Majority Leader mentioned President Trump accomplishments:

–Veterans: The “forever GI Bill—“the largest expansion of benefits” with no time limitation and “accountability” to fire bad Veterans Administration employees and hire good ones”

–Regulatory Reform:  Repealing 16 Obama era regulations through the Congressional Review Act (CRA) “which left the middle class behind with Obama policies.”

–Law and Order:  Increased the penalties for convicted and deported criminals who re-entered the United States as illegals.

–Pro Life:  “We passed the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act or ‘Micah’s Law’ to end abortions after 20 weeks.   We have the most pro-life Congress we have ever had in modern history.”

“I will not stand for California being a sanctuary state,”  said McCarthy.  “I asked Governor Brown do you want to pick and choose the laws you wish to follow?

“I’m ready to take California back and not give it away.  This is not about an individual.  It is about us, about our freedom, about people, not Republicans, not about Democrats but about reaching our full potential.   The idea that we can govern ourselves.

“In the movie Braveheart, after the first battle, the leaders get together in a pub to divide up the riches because they believe that the people exist to provide them with possessions; but our possessions exist to proved people with freedom.”
