Kicking Off the Fourth of July

Fathers and daughters, mothers and daughters, sisters, marathon team members and just some folks wanting to start their July 4th celebration early, all crossed the finish line at the 15th annual Channel Islands 4th of July 5K & 10K.

12-year-old Julia from Ventura just barely beat her 10-year-old sister Julia by a mere 2 seconds at 25:35 and 25:37.

Delanie Clark finished a full 2 minutes behind her dad Peter at 22:40. Both are local residents from Oxnard Shores.

Visiting family all the way from Phoenix, Arizona, runners Elizabeth Biek and her mom Scarlett totally enjoyed the cooler temperatures of Channel Islands, finishing at a very respectable 35:06.

This year’s participation was one of the largest with more than  300 5K runners and nearly 200 running the 10K.

Aaron Sharp of Port Hueneme was the first male to cross the 5K finish line in 15:23 with Brittany Oliver from Ventura finishing first in the female category with at time of  18:21

In the 10K Chris Frias from Ventura came in first in the men’s category with at time of 29:48.

Laura Bowman from Mammoth Lakes finished first in for the women with a time of 36:12

Proceeds go to support the community activities of the Channel Islands Harbor Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Camarillo, and Buena High School cross country.
