Attention, Tutors
- At our July Board meeting, Laubach Literacy’s 2019-2020 President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary were unanimously re-elected for another one year term through July 2021.
- Due to Covid-19, Laubach Literacy’s Tutor Talk groups, training sessions, and regular monthly meetings are cancelled until 2021.
- Congratulations to “Victoria” who became a U.S. citizen in June. She thanks her Laubach tutor for helping her improve her English skills.
- A tip: When we resume tutoring, you may have to be more conscious of your speech – sounds, words, and structures. Avoid untaught slang and idiom; also, many phrasal verbs should be avoided, e.g., don’ say “Let’s get down to work.” Rather say, “Let’s start the lesson.” Another example is “I washed the car” when pronounced casually, sounds exactly like “I wash the car.” The word “the” swallows the past tense ending on “washed.”  Adding a time-specifier (e.g., yesterday, three days ago) and intentionally pronouncing the “-ed” will help.
- Are you an Amazon shopper? If you are, please consider using Amazon Smile and selecting Laubach Literacy – thanks!

Laubach Literacy would like to thank the Meadowlark Service League of Camarillo for their very generous donation to us this year. We have received grants from them in past years, however, we did not expect one this year due to the corona virus which caused the cancellation of so many of their money-making ventures. We appreciate their support very much.
This non-profit organization was incorporated in 1972 “to initiate, educate, promote and develop charitable endeavors in the community and to raise funds to support such purposes.” Annually they usually host A Taste of Camarillo, a Charity Luncheon and Tennis Tournament, the Red Barn Holiday Boutique at the Adolfo Camarillo Ranch, and the Home for the Holiday’s Tours. With these proceeds, Meadowlark Service League distributes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to dozens of non-profit organizations including Laubach Literacy. Again, we thank you!
