Laura D. Hernandez for Port Hueneme City Council 2018

As a 20-year resident of Port Hueneme, I look forward to the opportunity to serve our community as a member of your City Council. My priorities are public safety, fiscal responsibility and civic engagement. My desire is to improve Port Hueneme as a desirable place to live, work and play. With over 30 years of local government experience, my qualifications for City Council include a working knowledge of municipal services, public administration, and budgeting.

For 17 years, I served as the Assistant Director for the Ventura County Sheriff ‘s Office of Emergency Services before retiring in December 2012. I    currently volunteer as Port Hueneme’s lead Captain for the Annual Countywide Coastal Cleanup. Additionally, I chair the Port Hueneme Citizen Corps Council for Disaster Preparedness in which we help residents prepare for emergencies and major disasters.

My career in emergency management allowed me to work collaboratively with multiple federal, state and local agencies, volunteer organizations, local non-profits, businesses, schools, the military, elected officials and over 100 special districts within the County. I strongly believe in working cooperatively with all community stakeholders to address the challenges our City faces.
