Have no fear about Betsy DeVos, little LA Times editorial board.
.
.
Betsy DeVos at her worst will not be 1/10 as bad as the losers and incompetents who have destroyed LA public schools – individuals the Times has supported for decades: Cortines, Brewer, Deazy, Eli Broad, et al. Nor can DeVos be anything but an improvement over Obama’s Ed. Sec’y. Arne Duncan, who spent billions, knew nothing – firsthand or otherwise about our schools, and accomplished squat.
DeVos will be a breath of fresh air to US public education, because she knows the two MOST important things – the two things that NO previous Secretary of Education has known:
.
1) Our public education is broken beyond repair and needs to be totally dismantled and rebuilt.
.
2) The Department of Education, not being a Constitutional activity needs to be eliminated, giving the responsibility for education back to the states, where it belongs.
So if Ms. DeVos does her job, the Times editorial board can come out from hiding under the covers in “fear of the next four years”, because the US Department of Education will be gone, and California’s public school leaders will have no one to blame but themselves if our schools continue in their present dysfunctional state.

You people never got over the Feds letting little blacks girls go to the same school as whites.
It was the Democrats that perpetrated that, genius.
The way the past Secretary of Education performed is in direct alignment with the goals of the Communist Party. I believe that more attention should be given to this premise.
DeVos Critics’ Hypocrisy on Public Schools

Betsy DeVos has the right idea which, of course, aligns with President Trump’s and also mine: The responsibility of educating our youth and directing their learning belongs first and foremost to the parents. Sadly, given our all-too dysfunctional families, the next stop is the community which may include churches, synagogues, and associations like the YMCA, then the City, and lastly, the State. At no time should the Federal government intercede. Put simply: the Feds are too far removed from the objective to be effective. The most triumphant Federal Secretary of Education is one who makes his or HER job irrelevant!
After my 43 year career with LAUSD I have seen more money spent on education with an inferior result from what I received from the same institute of previous years.
It’s time that parents should be put back into their rightful position of determining what’s best for their children instead of the current teachers union’s.
