Local PODS® Franchisee and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Give Hope to Local Family in Need

Iprice arial,sans-serif;”>n an effort to serve the community, PODS Franchisee, a moving and storage leader, has donated the use of its PODS containers to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s PolyHouse project for the second year in a row.

PolyHouse is a community service project led by the project management students at Cal Poly where they renovate the home of a deserving family. The donation of the PODS container will serve as a way for the family in need to store their belongings in a safe and secure place while their home is being renovated.

“We are so thankful for the continued support of PODS and the donation of its PODS containers for the PolyHouse project,” said Sara Catto, Graduate Student of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. “It’s a wonderful thing to see the community come together to help out a family in need.”

This year, the life-changing renovation will benefit a single mother and her two children living in a two-story home. The mother has a 21-year-old daughter with a rare genetic, postnatal neurological disorder that hinders her ability to complete daily tasks and requires mobility assistance. The Cal Poly PolyHouse students assessed the home and have developed a plan to improve the mobility for the family.

The students will work to improve the safety of the family’s home by making the bathroom, doorways and backyard wheelchair accessible. Renovations will also include the installation of a stair lift to allow her to access the upstairs bedrooms and hardwood floors for easier mobility.

“It is ambitious, but we know we can accomplish our goals of lessening the physical demands and essentially improving the family’s life by having everyone involved,” stated Catto.

Construction began on Friday, May 15 and was unveiled to the family on May 31, a huge feat for the students who will only had a short amount of time to complete this project.

“PODS is proud to support the efforts of the Cal Poly PolyHouse project for the second year in a row,” said Steve Yapp, Local Franchise owner. “Their support of this family and their drive to improve their life, will bring them nothing but success and we are truly honored to be a part of it.”
