GutierrezLydiaOutdoorsEvent Announcement

Note: heard that there might be a panel at the Monday, Aug. 26 event instead. We confirmed that. Please see new announcement 8-25-13

Educator Lydia Gutierrez will speak on the new and highly controversial Common Core standards and curiculum to be implemented in K-12 public schools in 45 states and many private ones, as well.

From the Event Organizer:

What is Common Core?

Parents all over America are asking…what is Common Core and how will it affect my child, our schools and our Nation?
Haven’t heard of it? If you are a parent or grandparent you need to know! Common Core is the untested federal education standard being
unconstitutionally implemented in every school (private, public & homeschool) that changes curriculum, learning, teaching, testing and student data gathering (and not for the better).

Educate yourself and invite your friends! Our children’s futures depend on it. This is the most important meeting you will attend all year!
Guest Speaker: Lydia Gutierrez – Holds two credentials in Multiple Subjects K-12, and Bilingual Education. She is a master teacher for UCLA’s Math Project Center X, a Fellow from Cal State Long Beach in the Writing Project, and a lecturer for The Los Angeles County Teachers Mathematics Association. In addition to her other positions, Lydia presently serves as an elected Board member on the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council. She is on both the Education and Budget & Finance Committees. More recently Lydia founded the National Organization of Parents and Teachers for a Quality Public Education. Lydia is currently running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Time: August 26, 2013 from 6pm to 7:30pm

Location: Thousand Oaks Public Library Conference Room, 1401 E Janss Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362
