Ventura County Sheriff’s Press Release:
On August 21, 2019, at approximately 7:47 AM, emergency personnel from the Camarillo Police Department, Ventura County Fire Department, American Medical Response, and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to a major traffic collision on Pleasant Valley Road west of Southfield Road in the City of Camarillo.
Investigators learned a semi-tractor and trailer transporting pallets of cardboard was traveling westbound on Pleasant Valley Road from Southfield Road. A Volkswagen sedan and Honda motorcycle were traveling eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road from Las Posas Road. The motorcycle crossed over the center divider and began passing the Volkswagen. The motorcycle traveled eastbound in the westbound lane and collided head on with the front of the semi-tractor. The collision caused the semi-tractor and trailer to lose control and cross over into the eastbound lane of Pleasant Valley Road and collide with the Volkswagen. The collision caused the Volkswagen and the semi-tractor and trailer to leave the roadway coming to rest into an adjacent agriculture field. The semi-tractor and trailer overturned and the cardboard on board caught fire.
The driver of the Volkswagen was trapped in her vehicle as a result of the accident. Two witnesses to the accident sprayed water on the fire with a garden hose and kept the fire from consuming the Volkswagen until the Ventura County Fire Department arrived on scene. The driver was extricated by Ventura County Fire personnel, and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi-tractor was uninjured in the collision. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Ventura County Fire Personnel were able to extinguish the burning cardboard after several hours. Pleasant Valley Road remained closed for several hours for the investigation and clean up. Pleasant Valley Road reopened at approximately 9:00 PM.
The collision is still under investigation by the Camarillo Police Traffic Bureau. Anyone who might have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Senior Deputy Shawn Holzberger at 805-388- 5146.
