A new poll from the University of Virginia Center for Politics shows that a majority of “Trump voters” support the idea of seceding from the nation now run by a gaffe-prone and aging Democrat, Joe Biden, and the long list of catastrophes and crises he’s allowed under his leftist activism.

Those range from the loss of $80 billion in American war machinery, and American personnel, in his withdrawal from Afghanistan, surging inflation, attempts to have the federal government take over elections, the border crisis, his abandonment of religious rights, budget excesses and more.

The poll found that 52% of “Trump voters” agreed with the statement: “The situation in America is such that I would favor (states) seceding from the union to form their own separate country.”

Twenty five percent agreed “strongly.

But lest Democrats accuse the GOP of disunity, the poll also revealed that 41% of “Biden voters” would do the same, with 18% “strongly” agreeing, even though their party is in control at this point of a unity government in Washington, with the White House and majorities in the House and Senate.

The center listed as “takeaways” from the results include:

The two political parties have “marked differences” regarding the Democrats’ reconciliation plans now in Congress.

“Majorities — often large majorities — of both Biden and Trump voters express some form of distrust for voters, elected officials, and media sources they associate with the other side. A strong majority of Trump voters see no real difference between Democrats and socialists, and a majority of Biden voters at least somewhat agree that there is no real difference between Republicans and fascists,” the poll said.

And, “Significant numbers of both Trump and Biden voters show a willingness to consider violating democratic tendencies and norms if needed to serve their priorities. Roughly 2 in 10 Trump and Biden voters strongly agree it would be better if a ‘president could take needed actions without being constrained by Congress or courts.'”

Thousands of Trump and Biden voters were asked to respond over the mid-summer survey of more than 300 questions.

“The divide between Trump and Biden voters is deep, wide, and dangerous. The scope is unprecedented, and it will not be easily fixed,” warned UVA Center for Politics Director Larry J. Sabato.

The results warn voters now are “at crisis stage.”

“Biden and Trump voters do not see how working with the other side fits into a bigger picture or translates into benefits for them. If anything, they view compromise as contrary their own priorities. They are convinced that the other side is pursuing an agenda that is contrary to their interests, principles, and values. They are convinced they will suffer personally if the other side has their way,” the survey reported.

“Illustrating the extent of the underlying divide, nearly 90% of voters on both sides agree that people like them won’t belong in America anymore if the ‘other side’ has its way, and more than 1 in 5 say they ‘agree completely’ that such is the case.”

Some 84% of Trump voters and 80% of Biden voters see the “other” party “as presenting a clear and present danger to American democracy.

Democrats in the Biden administration have, in fact, proposed a complete federal takeover of all elections, widespread elimination of constitutional rights to accommodate their COVID agenda, government control of education, an abandonment of constitutionally protected religious rights, and more.

The GOP has resisted, viewing the violations of the Constitution, such as Democrats allowing various state officials to simply ignore state laws during the balloting in the 2020 president election, as a threat.

On both sides, some three quarters believe that “media sources on the extreme” are so “untruthful” they should be “censored.”

That agenda point has been taken up largely across America by Big Tech web operations, whose owners openly have censored conservative and right-leaning comments and questions for several years already.

Again, some three quarters on both sides say members of the opposition party “have become a clear and present danger to the American way of life.”

The poll analysis warns that the “widespread disillusionment with the other side, and the perceptions of a system that is rigged to favor the wealthy and powerful,” essentially has “undermined faith” in representative democracy.

“More than 6 in 10 Trump and Biden voters see America as less a representative democracy and more a system that is run by and rigged for the benefit of the wealthy,” the analysis explained. “Overall, more than two-thirds support — and one-third strongly — emboldening and empowering strong leaders and taking the law into their own hands when it comes to dealing with people or groups they view as dangerous.”

The survey organizations said their goals including identifying those groups that are willing to compromise – to reduce the threat from what’s now a “dangerous divide.”

“Our hope is that, by employing the tools of modern behavioral science, Project Home Fire can develop a deep, data-driven understanding of the fears and concerns animating the increasingly dangerous political and cultural divide in America. The first step toward effectively solving a problem is to accurately understand its causes and we believe Project Home Fire can provide such understanding,” said Robert “Mick” McWilliams of Project Home Fire.

Vast numbers of Trump voters, in the range of 80% or more, think that society ought to stop the “radical, immoral people trying to ruin things,” it is the duty of every true citizen to “help eliminate the evil that poisons our country from within,” and the nation “needs a powerful leader in order to destroy the radical and immoral currents prevailing” now.

Democrats also liked those ideas, but to a much lesser extent.
