Man Found Guilty of 2014 Port Hueneme Murder
VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Ruben Gonzales (DOB 9/9/84), was found guilty of first-degree murder for the killing of 61-year-old Emeterio Gonzalez. The jury also found true the special allegation that Gonzales personally used a knife during the commission of the murder.
On July 8, 2014, Emeterio Gonzalez was stabbed in his home in Port Hueneme. Mr. Gonzalez suffered one stab wound to the neck and later died at the hospital. The stabbing was witnessed by two of the victim’s friends. Investigation by the Port Hueneme Police Department led to the identification and arrest of Ruben Gonzales.
Prior to the jury trial, he had pled guilty to other felonies involving separate incidents. These charges included assault with a deadly weapon, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, possession of a weapon in jail and possession of alcohol in jail.
Sentencing is set for March 1, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 48 of the Ventura Superior Court, County of Ventura. Gonzales faces a maximum possible sentence of 34 years 4 months to life in prison.
