Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter for Role in 2013 Killing

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Timothy Scott Adams (DOB 1/7/96), of Ventura, pled guilty on September 25, 2018, to one count of voluntary manslaughter for his involvement in the shooting of 18-year-old Gabriel Gutierrez outside the Ventura County Fair on July 31, 2013. Adams also admitted two special allegations that he committed the offense for the benefit of a criminal street gang and that he was 17 years old at the time of the killing. A juvenile transfer hearing was conducted on June 15, 2017, and Judge Kevin McGee determined that Adams should be tried as an adult for this crime. In addition, Adams pled guilty to a second count of threatening a witness, which occurred on April 25, 2016, when Adams was an adult.

Adams’ sentencing hearing is set for November 27, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura Superior Court, County of Ventura. Adams will be sentenced to a determinate term of 22 years in prison.
