Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2014 Port Hueneme Murder

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Ruben Gonzales (DOB 9/9/84), of Port Hueneme, was sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment of 34 years 4 months to life for the killing of 61-year-old Emeterio Gonzalez. A jury had previously convicted Gonzales of first-degree murder on January 30, 2018.

On July 8, 2014, Emeterio Gonzalez was stabbed in his home in Port Hueneme. Mr. Gonzalez suffered one stab wound to his neck and later died at the hospital. The stabbing was witnessed by two of the victim’s friends. Investigation by the Port Hueneme Police Department led to the identification and arrest of Ruben Gonzales.

Prior to the jury trial, Gonzales had pled guilty to other felonies involving separate incidents. These charges included assault with a deadly weapon, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, possession of a weapon in jail, and possession of alcohol in jail.
