Man Surrenders to Deputies After Camarillo Crime Spree and Pursuit

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On April 15th at 11:10 AM a Rosemead man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after being coaxed out of an attic, where he had been hiding from deputies at the end of a series of crimes he had committed in Camarillo. The saga began when Christopher McCusker stole merchandise from the Home Depot in Camarillo. An employee flagged down a deputy who was driving through the parking lot just after the theft occurred. The deputy found McCusker’s vehicle nearby and attempted to pull him over. McCusker led deputies on a high-speed pursuit, running several red lights in the process. McCusker collided with another vehicle, but continued without stopping. Eventually, he stopped his car in the area of Jay Avenue and Aileen Street and ran away.

Deputies chased McCusker to a building in the 700-block of Paseo Camarillo and set up a perimeter to keep him contained. Numerous deputies and two K-9’s were sent to the scene, along with a helicopter. McCusker was eventually found hiding in an attic and surrendered to deputies.

McCusker was arrested for kidnapping, felony evading, hit and run, shoplifting, resisting arrest, and an outstanding felony warrant from Riverside County. The kidnapping charge stems from the

fact that McCusker had a passenger in his vehicle who did not want to participate in his high- speed flight from deputies. She asked to be let out of the vehicle, but McCusker refused, thus taking her against her will using force or fear.

McCusker was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura.
