    Manley’s Run Across Uganda!

On May 9, 2019, Manley will head out on a 9-day adventure that most people couldn’t even fathom. He will be running 450 km across the country of Uganda!!

We both serve on the US Board of Directors for Pastors Discipleship Network. Two years ago while in Uganda the seed was planted for the run with a joking comment about how fun it would be to just “run across Uganda”. It didn’t take long for Richmond, the PDN Founder, to begin planning things and before Manley knew it the challenge was on!

    Why run across Uganda?

Indigenous pastors in Uganda are living and serving in unacceptable conditions. RunAcrossUganda is committed to remembering, rescuing, training, and releasing these remarkable leaders to serve and operate in their full potential. This run will also provide the opportunity to share our new vision for Africa and the strategy to get there, which in summary is, equipping indigenous pastors and commissioning them as change agents.

What are the details of the run?

    • 450 kilometers total
    • 9 days at 50 km per day (I’ll be following him in a car the whole time)
    • Solo Run from South Sudan Border to Lake Victoria, Kampala
    • Celebration 13km Fun Run on Saturday May 18th from Lake Victoria to PDN Campus

My sister Adrienne will be able to fly into Uganda for just a couple days and plans to do the run on Saturday the 18th with us. We are so excited. There will be lots of local Ugandan organizations joining in the run and final celebration at the PDN campus.

What does it take to train to run cross Uganda?

In the last 6 months of training, Manley has run over 1200 miles for over 200 hours and burned over 175,000 calories! He doesn’t want me to mention how much ice cream he’s eaten over the same time period but it’s a LOT.

He worked his way up to training runs of 20-26 miles which would take up to 5 hours on the road. A huge time commitment on top of all our other volunteering work.

We leave for Uganda in just 2 weeks (April 24th). Once we get there we will have a short time to get acclimated to the time zone and prepare for the run. We will be spend a total of 9 weeks in Uganda this time. Most of it will be working for PDN with a couple days set aside to visit our Compassion International sponsored children.

    How to give/help?

We wanted to share this exciting adventure and frankly, historic event. No one has ever run across the country of Uganda before so Manley will attempt to be the first. If you would like to help support us and our cause with a financial gift, you can do so online at www.RunAcrossUganda.com or by mailing a check to PDN PO Box 5773, Oxnard, CA 93031 Attn: Run Across Uganda.

    Hi,

Did this happen and if so, where can I see the details about the run? I might be interested in doing this route myself, so it would be great to tap into Manley’s experience;-)

    Thank you

I am so excited to participate in this run! Pastors are already talking about how they feel encouraged already by the world remembering them. This is the kind of event that changes the world. So proud of the Klassens for taking on this challenge. Let’s keep pressing forward.

Thanks for letting me know about the event.
However, I see the route is across the South to North. I miss out I could have loved to join for one day if it was like across East to West! I remain interested in the cause!
