Melissa Rivers announced as Honorary Hostess: Dog Film Festival L.A. Kick Off Pooch Party
Festival Dedicated in Memory of Joan Rivers, the Ultimate Dog Lover
When Tracie Hotchner launched the inaugural Dog Film Festival™ in New York City in October 2015, she dedicated it in loving memory to her godmother Joan Rivers, “the ultimate dog lover herself”. Today, the Dog Film Festival™ is proud to announce Melissa Rivers, Joan’s daughter, as the honorary hostess for the Dog Film Festival™. Melissa is also the goddaughter of Hotchner, the founder and president of the Dog Film Festival™.
In addition to being the honorary hostess, Melissa will be attending the Dog Film Festival’s outdoor Pooch Party to honor the memory of her mother and the dogs who were so important in her life. Dog Film Festival™ brings people together to celebrate the remarkable bond between dogs and humans as well as the animal rescue groups that bring them together. Melissa’s own dog, Iris, was united with her and her son Cooper through Cage Free K9 Rescue in Los Angeles and many of Joan’s dogs were also rescues, including Max the Pekingese and her last rescue dog, Samantha, who came to her through a Japanese Chin rescue in Nevada.
Most people who see Melissa Rivers on the red carpet are unaware that she is not only a glamorous and beautiful style maven, but also an Ivy League graduate, single mother of a teenage son, accomplished equestrian, author, television producer, and philanthropist.
Together with her mother Joan Rivers, she created the Red Carpet phenomenon. In her current role as an Executive Producer and co-host of E! Entertainment’s Fashion Police, Melissa shares with viewers her candor, quick wit and meticulous eye for fashion. She is also the New York Times best-selling author of The Book of Joan: Tales of Mirth, Mischief, and Manipulation (Crown Archetype), published in May 2015.
At the Pooch Party on June 4, the green carpet will be rolled out for dogs and their people to enjoy an afternoon tea party featuring refreshments, fun contests, prizes, canine bakery treats, special sWag bags and on-site dog adoptions from the Lange Foundation. Melissa will be available for meet and greets as well as photo opportunities. With a mission is to bring communities together to save and improve the lives of animals, the Dog Film Festival’s™ Los Angeles premiere is the following day, on June 5.
The Dog Film Festival™ is presented by the Petco Foundation. Tickets for the Dog Film Festival™ are $20 per screening and can be purchased online. About the Dog Film Festival
In 2014, the first Dog Film Festival™ grew out of Tracie Hotchner’s desire, as a pet wellness advocate, to expand her Radio Pet Lady Network’s outreach to educate the public about adoption, pet wellness issues and philosophical aspects of pets in our lives. The festival is a unique way of honoring dogs as true family members by bringing together like-minded people to experience and celebrate the remarkable human-canine bond. The Dog Film Festival™ shares proceeds from its ticket sales with local shelters and rescue partners wherever it travels.
