Metrolink Offers Service to New COVID-19 Vaccination Site at Cal State LA

LOS ANGELES – Metrolink offers a direct connection to Los Angeles County’s newest COVID-19 vaccination location at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) with a station located near the new “walk-up vaccination center” that is scheduled to open Tuesday, Feb. 16. The vaccination center will be open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Metrolink’s Cal State LA Station is on the San Bernardino Line. Metrolink riders can reach the walk-up vaccination location by taking the elevator or stairs from the train platform to the university transit center and following directional signs to Structure A. Shuttles will take people from the transit center to the vaccination walk-up site.

“With a county this size, offering transportation options to vaccination sites is critical,” said Metrolink Board Member Hilda L. Solis, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and Supervisor to the First District. “This past Tuesday, I authored a motion directing Los Angeles County to partner with transportation operators, authorities, and companies to ensure community members, particularly those 65 years of age and older, can access vaccination sites with ease – in particular, the new vaccination site at Cal State LA. I am grateful that Metrolink will serve as a vital and accessible link for so many of our residents who rely on public transportation.”

Metrolink trains make 15 stops at the Cal State L.A. station between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on week days, with 12 trains servicing during those hours on Saturday and ten on Sunday. See Metrolink schedules here.

“Having the walk-up center so near our Cal State L.A. Station adds convenience for people who need transit to go to a vaccination site,” said Metrolink Board Chair and Glendale Councilmember Ara Najarian. “Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Metrolink has taken many steps to ensure that train travel is safe, including requiring that masks be worn at all our stations and trains, installing new antimicrobial air filters that eliminate more than 99.9 percent of contaminants, adding two hand sanitizing stations on each train car, and enhancing cleaning frequency and using hospital-grade disinfectants to focus on touchpoints such as doors, restrooms, head and arm rests, handrails, tables and trash areas.”

Metrolink offers clean, efficient and economical passenger rail service with the San Bernardino Line providing a 25 percent discount from Metrolink’s standard fare structure. Students and youth receive additional 25 percent discounts off all fares, and one-way and round-trip ticket are discounted 10 percent discounts for active military. Seniors and persons with disabilities enjoy 50 percent off one-way and round-trip tickets and 25 percent off Monthly, seven-day and five-day passes. Children ages five and under always ride free. On weekends, adults pay just $10 to ride all day anywhere Metrolink travels and three kids ages 17 and under ride free with each paying adult. Tickets can be purchased on the Metrolink Mobile App and at ticket machines at Metrolink stations.

The new vaccination super site also has a drive-up center located in Parking Lot 5 on the north side of the campus.

Vaccination appointments can be made using the state’s My Turn system or by calling (833) 422-4255.

The CSULA site is part of a White House program to establish 100 sites nationwide in the first 100 days of President Joe Biden’s administration. It is being co-managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and receives federal staffing and operational support.
