Migrant Caravan Seen As Threat By Majority of Americans & Sunday They Stormed the U.S. Border

According to  a poll published in USA Today, 54 percent of Americans view the migrant caravan as a threat.

On Sunday, approximately 1,000 migrant caravan members rushed a defensive line of Mexican law officers in riot gear in Tijuana and then attempted to storm the U.S. border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost announced that members of the caravan pushed through the border fence and that rocks, large chunks of concrete and bottles were hurled at border patrol agents. Because of the assaultive nature and  in order to maintain control of the border, she said that tear gas was deployed. Video evidence: https://news.grabien.com/story-videos-emigres-migrant-caravan-storm-border-trump-shuts-down  We The People Rising initiated a nationwide campaign, via social media, calling upon the public to email U.S. Customs and Border Protection in support of the action taken on Sunday.

Honduran Ana Zuniga, 23, said she saw migrants open a hole in concertina wire that had been strung to impede migrants’ progress when they try to cross the border, The Guardian reported.

This is an example of caravan members breaking federal law and destroying federal property.”The American system is predicated upon upholding the law. The migrant caravan members have been granted asylum status in Mexico. So they are not refugees. The lawful process calls for them to enter the USA legally, via a port of entry,” Robin Hvidston, Executive Director for We The People Rising and CA State Coordinator for The Remembrance Project, said.  “This past Sunday, our border patrol agents were under rock attack as migrants began to push through the border fence. Tear gas was deployed to keep law enforcement safe. The majority of those who rushed the border were adult males. Frankly, the adults who put children in this dangerous situation should be held responsible. Tijuana is providing a shelter for the migrant caravan and that is where adults with children should remain, for the safety of the children.”

In addition, on the other side of the border, American citizens are calling upon the United States government to care for its own citizens.

“The fact is millions of Americans are in desperate need of immediate help. The United States government should not  take on the care of Central Americans when thousands of U.S. families are homeless. More than 400,000 poverty stricken U.S. kids are in foster care, 52 million Americans are disabled and 600,000 veterans are not receiving proper medical care. More than 6 million Americans are unemployed and in need of work. All of these millions of citizens should be the priority and the focus of their government. How can we take in more people from Central America to compete with these vulnerable U.S. citizens? The Central American governments should step up to the plate and care for their citizens in their countries,” Hvidston said.

Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost said that more migrant caravans are headed to Tijuana and that law enforcement anticipates more migrants, en masse, to storm the border. She said that the border patrol and law enforcement are prepared to secure the border and that they will continue to take action to protect this nation’s border.
