If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting France, or if you’ve already been and long for the day you will return, a visit to Millésimé Cellars is the perfect quick fix for your yearning desires. And it’s no wonder. From the huge Antique clock on the wall, to the Eifel Tower cork cage, photographer, winemaker and owner Brittany Rice has re-created the warm, relaxed ambiance of a French Café.

In an industrial park in Camarillo.

Just like France’s rich wine-making history, Brittany’s life has been immersed in a generous heritage from her wine making family since birth. Her parents are the owners of Sunstone Vineyards and Winery in Santa Ynez Valley. It’s here where, at the age of 12, Brittany planted her first Merlot grapes.

Keeping her business on a very personal level and to keep the memory of her millennium visit through France alive, Brittany chose to name her winery Millésimé, which means “vintage year”. The name is also a combination of Brittany’s three loves; time, vintage and her millennium trip.

Brittany is one of only a few female winemakers in all of the California wine-making counties and is hands-on with every part of the wine-making process. From harvest to bottle to glass, she oversees all aspects of her creation. Even the labels on the wine bottles are replications of the original photographs she shot on her tour of France.  The framed photographs hang on the walls of the tasting room and can be purchased, along with matching candles made from recycled wine bottles and, of course, a bottle of wine.

Recycling wine bottles is only one of the many ways Brittany strives to be eco-friendly. She also sells recycled glass jewelry and the barrels are re-used both in her cellar and as art pieces. More importantly, Millésimé Cellars uses Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) approved ingredients in their wines.

“Our family’s winery was one of the first organically certified wineries in Santa Ynez,” Brittany said. “I have carried on that tradition by using organic/biodynamic fruit. I believe in using OMRI approved products because they are sustainable and healthy for the environment. I also truly believe the flavor is enhanced when the amount of pesticides and additives are greatly reduced.”

Millésimé Cellars’ White Label flight consists of single varietals include a 2012 Viognier and a 2011 Merlot. The Black Label of blends flight list includes the 2008 Scoprire, (To Discover) 2008 Lumiere Du Fleur (The Light of the Flower) and the 2008 Bleu Saphir.

In addition to wine tastings, Millésimé Cellars holds a number of events during the year that include chocolates, cheeses and desserts, winemaking classes, and sensory evaluation experiences. The tasting room can host private events up to 20 guests.

“We plan at least two events a month, for both the wine club members and for the public with themes around a holiday, like Father’s Day and July 4th. One of my favorite inspirational sayings is “follow your bliss.”  It means to live life to the fullest by doing what you love, that brings you joy. My winery, the guests and special events bring me and everyone who comes to my winery a lot of joy all year long.”

The French call that joie de vivre!
