    Moorpark College Ensembles This Spring

We are excited to let you know about our spring semester at Moorpark College which is starting on Jan. 11th. If you have followed us during the Fall semester, we had some amazing Wind and Jazz Ensemble online concerts. At the bottom of this message are the recording links if you would still like to watch them. Also, the live streamed afterparty shows in which we sightread music together were hugely successful, showing that we are able to play synchronously together online. The links to those recordings are below as well. With that said, I need to let you know that we risk losing our classes in Spring 2021 if enrollment does not immediately improve (especially the Wind Ensemble). If there ever was a time to find healing and togetherness through the performing arts, it’s now. All instruments (string, keyboard, voice, guitar, etc…) are welcome. As you can see in our concert videos, our class is now made up of student led small ensembles with a few large ensemble pieces, so you create your own opportunities (with my guidance of course).

Remember that the Moorpark College performance ensembles are open to all college students (music majors and non-music majors), motivated high school students as a supplement to their current high school band classes (I’ve even had a few extremely ambitious middle school students in my classes), and lifelong learners. Each ensemble class is worth 1 unit (transferrable to UC and CSU) and costs less than $100 for college students and lifelong learners. Tuition is free for high school students. This is especially a great opportunity for high school students because it gives them a head start on college and looks great on university applications. Also, if you participate as a high school student and continue at Moorpark College as a music major upon graduation, you are eligible for the Instrumental Music Scholarship in Honor of Rohith Gopal. Those that are interested in joining us should just enroll in the class now and show up the first week. Here is the link to apply for admission to Moorpark College: http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/apply_and_enroll/apply_for_admission/index.shtml. Here is the course catalog link for the “Wind Ensemble” class: https://ssb.vcccd.edu/prod/pw_pub_sched.p_course_popup?vsub=MUS&vcrse=M12&vterm=202103&vcrn=37289. We hope that you will consider joining us this semester, if not as a student as an audience member. Please help get the word out and forward this on to anyone who you think might be interested in this great experience (students, friends, family, neighbors, etc…). I also recommend checking out some of the other great ensembles Moorpark College has to offer such as the Concert Choir, Vocal Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. Please Brendan McMullin if you have any questions. Thank you.
