Moving, Merging and Metamorphosis: An Evening of Choreography

Moving, Merging and Metamorphosis: An Evening of Choreography with Beth Megill, Pamela Pilkenton, Spencer Powell, Shane Tice and Jeanne Travers will be presented on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 8:00 pm.  The performance will be held at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Dr. in Thousand Oaks.  The evening will include a diverse and entertaining repertoire of pieces, from dramatic to lighthearted, and from highly energetic to beautifully lyrical.

Jeanne Travers, whose choreography has been presented in Bolivia, China, Ecuador, France, Italy, Scotland, Trinidad Tunisia and throughout the United States, will present three pieces including What If… a lyrical and poetic dance that ponders questions about the Universe.  Into Mergance focuses on the complexity of relationships and the ways in which we explore human connection. A Bridge Beyond incorporates highly physical and dynamic movement with lifts and partnering, to metaphorically suggest the many bridges one must cross to discover transformation.

Pamela Pilkenton (Director of Aloft Dancetheatre in Ventura) will present two choreographic works including an interplay between sculptural movement and playful lightness, Bias: A StudyA Piece of Painting is a site-specific work reflecting the view of a painter inspired to bring color to moving statues. Shane Tice (Choreographer and performer with Aloft Dancetheatre) will present his signature duet titled Filigree with a Baroque music composition by Scarlatti. Inspired by today’s political climate, Spencer Powell (Director of Visionary Dance Theatre in San Diego) will present excerpts from a work-in-progress titled Majestic Beauty of Hate, slated to premiere in spring 2018 as a full-length production that explores racism, bigotry, homophobia, and other faces of hate. Beth Megill’s (Director of Megill and Company in Los Angeles) choreography will bring a sense of dance theatre to the stage offering a beautiful intersection between the two genres.

The choreographers will utilize the unique talents of dancers from their own companies: Visionary Dance Theatre in San Diego, Aloft Dancetheatre in Ventura and Megan Megill Dance Company in Los Angeles.
