Murder with Special Circumstance Charges Filed Against Three Oxnard Men for Robbery Spree and Homicide of Aaron Austin and Eduardo Leon
VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that murder charges have been filed against David Flores (DOB 10/12/97), Joel Montijo (DOB 11/24/95), and Joseph Martinez (DOB 6/21/98), all of Oxnard. Flores, Montijo and Martinez were charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances of multiple murder and murder in commission of a robbery, and firearm use enhancements. The charges are the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Oxnard Police Department into the homicides of victims Aaron Austin and Eduardo Leon on May 16, 2017, in Oxnard. The charges carry a potential sentence of death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. In addition, Flores, Montijo and Martinez are charged with two robberies with use of firearms that also occurred on May 16, 2017.
Flores and Montijo appeared in court on February 26, 2018, and Martinez first appeared today for arraignment on the charges. Arraignments for all three defendants were continued into April 2018.
The Oxnard Police Department will be holding a press conference on the investigation of these crimes on Wednesday, February 28, at 9:00 a.m. The press conference will take place at the Oxnard Police Department located at 251 S.
