Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On September 23rd, 2020 detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit assisted by the Ventura County Combined Agency Team concluded a one-month narcotic investigation into Artin Abedi, who was involved in the sales of heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and prescription medications to residents of Ventura County.
Detectives located and detained Abedi in Reseda and served a search warrant on his person, vehicle, and his residence. During this investigation detectives were able to seize approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine, 2 pounds of heroin, ½ ounce of Fentanyl, 118 Suboxone strips. Abedi was in possession of a non-serialized 9MM handgun that is commonly referred to as a “Ghost Gun” because it was manufactured illegally and not registered with the Department of Justice.
Abedi was booked into custody at the Ventura County Main Jail for 11351(a) H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance, 11378 H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance and charges related to the unregistered firearm. Abedi’s bail was raised to $1,000,000.00 and he is still in custody.
The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Ventura Police Department and the Thousand Oaks Police Department. The primary mission of the task force is combatting the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.
