National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Commemoration April 8 – 14, 2018

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced that the week of April 8 – 14, 2018, is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.  Since its inception in 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week has been a time to honor both crime victims and the advocates who fight for victims’ rights and services.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office will commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with a ceremony on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.  This year’s ceremony will include remarks by District 44 Assembly Member Jacqui Irwin, a strong advocate on behalf of human trafficking victims and victims of violent crime.

The District Attorney will also present Senior Sheriff’s Deputy Frances Saleh and Safe Harbor Medical Coordinator Gina DAquilla with the Justice for Victims Award for their work on near-fatal strangulation, investigation, and training.  Additionally, the Ellie Liston Hero Award will be presented to Shawn and Nicole Christensen and the Resilience Award will be presented to Yesenia Echeverria in connection with a near-fatal domestic violence crime in 2015.

We invite you to attend and join our collective reflection and recommitment to victims’ rights and services.  The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Ventura County Government Center, Hall of Administration, Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, California.  Following the program, there will be a march around the Government Center.  Lunch will be provided by Interface Children and Family Services, The Coalition for Family Harmony, and the Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Company.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is the public prosecutor for the county’s 850,000 residents. The office employs approximately 280 employees including attorneys, investigators, victim advocates, and other professional support staff who strive to seek justice, ensure public safety, and protect the rights of crime victims.
