A Camarillo man was arrested on October 5th, 2021 for firing a weapon during an argument while holding a small child.
On October 5, 2021, Camarillo Patrol deputies responded to the 900 block of N. Hickory View Circle, reference a call for service. Patrol deputies obtained information that Jaeren McCullough was involved in a verbal argument with other individuals at the residence. During the argument, McCullough obtained a 9mm handgun and fired one round into the air. As deputies arrived on scene, McCullough fled the area with the firearm to avoid arrest.
Camarillo Patrol deputies canvased the area but were unsuccessful in locating McCullough after an extensive search.
Later during the same day, Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail (SED) detectives located McCullough in the City of Camarillo. Detectives contacted McCullough and found him to be in possession of methamphetamine.
During the investigation, detectives were able to obtain information on where McCullough hid the firearm to avoid detection. Detectives conducted an extensive search and located the firearm and other evidence related to the case.
Based on the investigation, McCullough was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officers arrest, negligent discharge of a firearm, destroying and/or concealing evidence, unlawful transfer of a firearm and child abuse. McCullough is currently in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled for court on October 7, 2021.
The Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail is comprised of six plain clothes detectives who focus on efforts that negatively affect the quality of life of the law-abiding citizens of Camarillo. The goal of Camarillo SED is to reduce property and violent crime through investigations and direct enforcement.
