VENTURA, California – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Savannah Millar-Cardiel (DOB 02/12/94) and Jason Aaron Rodriguez (DOB 09/24/93), both of Moorpark, pled guilty to felony automobile insurance fraud. Rodriguez also pled guilty to hit-and-run driving.
On February 8, 2020, Rodriguez was driving Millar-Cardiel’s vehicle and was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Millar-Cardiel was the only insured person on the vehicle. Millar-Cardiel and Rodriguez subsequently lied about the circumstances of the collision, claiming that Millar-Cardiel’s vehicle had been stolen and the alleged thief was driving the car during the hit-and-run. Millar-Cardiel then made a false claim to AAA Insurance to cover the repair costs of the car. Subsequent investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office determined Rodriguez was driving Millar-Cardiel’s vehicle at the time of the hit-and-run.
Millar-Cardiel and Rodriquez are scheduled to be sentenced on August 17, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 23 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Felony automobile insurance fraud is punishable by up to five years in jail, a fine of up to $50,000 or double the amount of the fraud, whichever is greater.
