I am running for the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees to reverse a long decline in the quality and performance of our educational system.  Too many of our students graduate from high school who can’t read, write, spell, or even fill out a job application.  In turn because of the failings of the lower grades, the community colleges have had to become remedial institutions.

We can reverse this trend by going back to high standards, high expectations, and strong discipline in the lower grades, and by offering school choice to parents so that they can choose among public, private, charter or home schooling.  With competition the public schools too will provide a better education, and then we can return the community colleges to what I see as their main mission of providing a second chance.  A second chance to learn new skills or a trade, a second chance to go to a four year institution, and a second chance at learning for adults of all ages.

All of the stakeholders in our communities must come together to help restore the greatness that was once California schools.

Too many of our students graduate from high school who can’t read, write, spell, or even fill out a job application. In turn, because of the failings of the lower grades, the community colleges have had to become remedial institutions.

We must also reduce the power of the public employee unions who support candidates who will do their bidding once they are elected to the detriment of the students they are supposed to serve. the colleges must be run for the students and not the public employee unions.

Finally and equally important to me, we must ensure that our students understand our history including what makes America and our founding documents so special. This was the first time in history that a free people decided that they didn’t need a king or a dictator, or a despot to tell them how to live their lives. They were quite capable of making those decisions for themselves and understanding that what the state gives you, the state can take away. People get their rights from God and not the state.

I have an excellent chance to win this election, since I am running against three Democrat candidates, supported by different union factions which are likely to split the vote. There is no run-off in this election- a plurality of votes wins on March 3rd. It is a non-partisan election, and I cannot win without your votes and your friends’ votes. Together we can bring our educational system back.
