Numerous arrests in Oxnard, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery
Friday evening and the early morning hours were busy for the police in Oxnard.
Just before 9:30pm last night officers from the Oxnard Police Department contacted Adrian Villagomez in the 1800 block of North Ventura Road. Villagomez was wanted for a vehicle burglary that occurred on March 5, 2014. During the contact, officers were advised that Villagomez had just committed a robbery of a food vendor who was set up in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Ventura Road. An investigation revealed that the suspect had just stolen the vendor’s tip canister. When the victim attempted to chase down Villagomez to retrieve the canister, Villagomez simulated a handgun and told the victim he had a gun. The suspect was contacted by officers while fleeing and was taken into custody for robbery. He was also charged with being in possession of a narcotic smoking pipe. Villagomez was not armed.
Just after 11pm police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Frank Avenue in reference to a disturbance. When officers arrived they learned that a male identified as Ramiro Vargas had been stabbed. Vargas was transported to Saint John’s Hospital with minor injuries. Officers learned that an unknown number of males confronted Vargas at his residence. The confrontation turned physical and a fight ensued. At some point during the fight, the victim was stabbed. Officers and detectives are investigating the incident. The reason for the altercation is still undetermined. Then early on Saturday morning before 2am an Oxnard Police Department patrol officer was in the area of Ruby’s Café located on the 300 Block South Oxnard
Blvd. The officer observed a fight break out between two different groups who were leaving the bar. He further observed one of the subjects, later identified as Sergio Castro, produce a handgun and fire a shot. The officer immediately confronted and disarmed Castro without incident. Multiple officers responded to the location to assist and several other subjects were detained. During the investigation, officers learned that Castro was striking the male victim on the head with the handgun when it discharged. The male victim had moderate head injuries from being struck multiple times but no gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene but declined to be transported to the hospital. Castro was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and numerous other weapons violations involving an Ex-Felon being in possession of a firearm. Hector Salcedo, who was an associate of Castro’s, was also arrested for battering a female victim during the same incident.
