Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On 10/07/2020, Ojai patrol deputies were dispatched to an attempt residential burglary in the 400 block of Palomar Road in Ojai. The victim interrupted the suspect as he was preparing to enter the residence through a window. Ojai patrol deputies responded to the scene, quickly established a perimeter, and located Dawson Campos who matched the description provided by the victim. While detaining Campos, the victim was able to positively identify Campos as the suspect who attempted to break into his residence.
Campos was arrested and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for 664/459 PC- Attempt burglary, 11377(a) HS- Possession of a controlled substance, 11350(a) HS- Possession of a controlled substance, 11364(a) HS- Possession of an injection device.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to secure their residences when they leave and report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately by calling the Sheriff’s Communication Center at (805) 654-9511. If residents are leaving for an extended period of time, arrangements can be made for extra patrol in your neighborhood. Remember, leaving open or unlocked windows and doors makes residences an easy target. Suspects look for indications that the residences are unoccupied and then force entry inside, often targeting jewelry, small safes, and other valuables.

When I hear stories like this I have to wonder if it was – just – burglary….there would be no way to know if the victim was targeted. The criminal sure won’t admit anything saying, yep, I was planning on other things with that person – instead they caught me off guard.
