Oniracom – the Santa Barbara-based marketing and technology partner of Sony, Disney, Universal, Warner, Sonos, Deckers and The Santa Barbara Bowl, along with a host of startups and nonprofits – is proud to announce initial results of its partnership in a new initiative led by multi-platinum recording artist Jack Johnson – BYOBottle – designed to significantly reduce plastic pollution in the music industry.

The collaborative BYOBottle Campaign encourages artists, venues, festivals, businesses, and fans to reduce plastic pollution in the music industry. Artists are encouraged to travel with reusable water bottles and include language in their rider asking venues to provide water refill options backstage, while venues, festivals, and promoters commit to providing water refill stations for artists and fans.

After a successful kick-off on Earth Day, the BYOBottle Campaign has signed on over 200 artists – including Maroon 5, P!nk, Wilco, Ben Harper, Empire of the Sun, SWMRS, Flume, CHVRCHES and The Lumineers – as well as 30 venues and festivals; 50 non-profit and business partners; and 800 fans, with a social media reach of nearly 5 million. The campaign is modeled after Green Music Australia’s BYOBottle, which was instrumental in encouraging the elimination of disposable bottled water at the Caloundra Music Festival – thereby diverting 60,000 bottles from landfill each year.

Oniracom is a web, social, and technology partner on the project, amplifying the BYOBottle commitment to artists and venues globally.

“Our friends at Oniracom supported our planning team with a successful global launch of the BYOBottle campaign,” stated Jack Johnson. “From the creation of a new website to our ongoing reach on social media, their knowledge helped us leverage technology to reach a huge audience around the world and to engage people to take action for the environment.”

“BYOBottle is yet another example of how Jack and Kim Johnson model and inspire lasting change. We’re honored to have collaborated with them for nearly two decades, and take their mission to heart in all of our work: an individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change,” stated Jacob Tell, Oniracom CEO and Creative Lead. “We’re excited to see how our latest Actionable Intelligence™ work can further amplify the impact of sustainability and social good programs like these by leveraging big data and leading-edge market research.”

Oniracom, the agency of record for Jack Johnson since 2001, has helped his brand, record label, and foundations bring a series of sustainability initiatives alive over the past two decades to benefit environmental and humanitarian concerns. In addition to developing and maintaining JackJohnsonMusic.com, their work included websites that integrated with real-time social media engagement at live events for Kokua Hawaii Foundation and its Kokua FestivalPlastic Free HawaiiJohnson Ohana FoundationAll At Once, and now BYOBottle.

Oniracom has also become a community partner of many local groups, like Heal the Ocean and Community Environmental Council, that work to stem the tide of plastic. They also are the marketing agency behind hometown venues like the Santa Barbara Bowl, which launched a reusable pint cup program and provides water refill stations to reduce plastic waste, and the Lobero Theatre, which has followed suit with a reusable pint cup program and comprehensive greening plan.
