O’Reilly Thrown Under the Bus

By Michael Greer

“In Germany, they first came for the gypsies, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a gypsy. Then they came for the Bolsheviks, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Bolshevik. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics. I didn’t speak up then because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak up.” – Martin Niemoller, A Lutheran Pastor arrested by the Gestapo in 1937

We can update that quote to today, First, they came for Glenn Beck and I said nothing because I wasn’t a Glenn Beck fan. Then they came for Bill O’Reilly and I said nothing because I wasn’t an O’Reilly fan.  Then they came for Hannity…

Who will speak when they come for me?

Do any of you actually think Media Matters cares if O’Reilly made sexist remarks to women? O’Reilly has consistently been the highest rated Fox News show.  Beck was one of the highest rated when he was forced off Fox.  I’m not particularly an O’Reilly fan.  He’s a bit too “fair and balanced” for me.  But we can’t sit by and allow Media Matters to pick off our Conservative voices one by one.  I heard that Fox plans to replace O’Reilly with a “non-political” commentator.  Really? Who would that be?

I’ve heard from many Conservatives on Facebook and Twitter who don’t like Fox and don’t care if O’Reilly is fired, some who are cheering his firing.  They don’t think O’Reilly or Fox are Conservative enough. But that isn’t the point. Conservatives have ONLY ONE network that comes close to reflecting their values. Are we going to “say nothing” and watch the ONLY Conservative network turned into yet ANOTHER Liberal propaganda outlet?

The election of Trump will not stop this. In fact, I believe his election has caused the Left to double down on their attempts to silence Conservative voices.  They are SO angry and SO well funded.  They can pay people to sit in their basements and call advertisers to threaten boycotts if they continue to sponsor Conservative shows.  We don’t have the means of combatting them.  This is not grassroots outrage over O’Reilly harassing women, it is a well funded, well organized campaign to silence Conservatives and they have no intention of stopping.  Just click on this link to see who’s behind this.  https://mediamatters.org

The Left marches in lock step. We are all too willing to throw our own under the bus.  We complain about the biased media, the media that out right lies, the media that ignores news that conflicts with their world view, the media that changes “Allah Akbar” to “God is Great”, the media that ignores the Rule of Law, but we believe them when they say a Conservative did something wrong.

I don’t know all the details of the allegations against O’Reilly but I read about the latest one.  She is a Black woman who said Beck “leered” at her and he once called her “hot chocolate”.  Really?  Have we forgotten the Lacrosse trial?  A completely made up media story that ruined many young men’s lives?  Or the fake claim that one out of five college girls are raped on college campuses?

“Settling” a lawsuit is not an admission of guilt. I think we all know it’s cheaper than going to trial, and that’s why many file lawsuits.  Do you remember the Black fireman, here in Los Angeles, who had always been a jokester and liked by his fellow firemen, who sued Los Angeles because, as a joke, his fellow firemen put dog food in his spaghetti sauce.  He said it was a racist act.  There were pictures of him pulling jokes on other firemen and he worked for years with them and never claimed racism.  It was pretty clear it was just “boys being boys”, but Los Angeles settled for millions.

I don’t know if O’Reilly “harassed” women or not but you and I both know people are offended today by things they weren’t offended by ten or twenty years ago…or ever before. These days women are offended by being whistled at (personally, I miss being whistled at).  But I’m not going to throw O’Reilly under the bus without the facts nor will I remain silent and allow Media Matters to take down Conservative voices.
