Oxnard 4th of July fireworks

By George Miller

For a city that’s broke, Oxnard put on a heckuva fireworks show last night at Channel Islands Harbor for Independence Day. It went 37 minutes and blew hundreds of rockets to smithereens, much to the delight of a huge festive crowd lining harbor shores, on the water and elsewhere.  No charge to get in/watch, ever.

Restaurants, bars and cafes, were doing a booming business. Many people brought their own tables, chairs, food and had been there all day for the various events.  This put a cap on the evening for them.

Channel Islands Harbor 4th of July festivities were among the best of the many Ventura County celebratory events this weekend.
