On August 16, 2021 at approximately 3:11 P.M., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a shooting in the 100 block of West Juniper Street. When they arrived, officers located a crime scene however the victim was not present. Officers eventually located the victim, a 48-year-old male Oxnard resident, in the 100 block of West Iris Street. The victim had been stabbed multiple times and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Investigators from the Special Operations Division responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. It was determined that the suspect approached the victim while the victim was working on his vehicle. The suspect began an unprovoked attack on the victim, stabbing him multiple times before fleeing. Investigators believe the victim armed himself with a firearm and as the suspect, who at this point had entered a vehicle, was driving towards the victim, the victim began shooting at the suspect. The suspect then struck the victim with the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the Lemonwood Neighborhood in the City of Oxnard. The vehicle had damage consistent with being involved in a shooting. Officers were able to located the driver in a residence in the 2200 block of Joyce Drive. The driver was found to be the suspect from the earlier incident. He was identified as 26-year-old Oxnard resident Saul Guerra-Salazar.

Salazar was arrested for attempted murder and was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the initial incident. He will be booked into the Ventura County Jail on those charges once he is released. The investigation is still ongoing.
