Commentary by Christopher Taccone
At last night’s Oxnard City Council meeting I wanted to bring awareness for an incident involving Councilman Perello, when he not only outed a whistle blower but insinuated that person be harassed when he emailed over 150+ recipients an email that was forwarded to him. This should have remained confidential. It has been a few weeks since the incident and I have not heard of any disciplinary actions being taken by the City.
He needs to face the consequences for his actions, as the City Treasurer was stripped of his duties and had his email privileges revoked when he was accused of doing terrible things. Bert Perello was in favor to remove him from his duties and email privileges.
Unfortunately, it was more than just Councilman Perello that made detestable comments. The city manager also made unnecessary comments as well. While I don’t agree with his point of view and approach to this matter, this never should have been made visible to the public.
I am attaching the email for review; however, I have removed the details that identify who the person is to prevent further harassment.
I do believe action should be taken and encourage others that feel the same way to speak up to our council. We need our government to show us they do take our concerns seriously and without addressing this may prevent people from coming forward in fear of exposure or retaliation.
