Born and raised in Oxnard, Daniel Chavez, Jr. is proud of his roots and his community. The son of Georgia Elena Marquez and oldest of four boys, he grew up in the Bryce Canyon North neighborhood.

Daniel attended local schools in both the Oxnard and Hueneme School Districts. After his graduation from Hueneme High School, he was employed with the Hueneme Elementary School District (HESD) as a paraprofessional. Daniel currently works for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority as a Bus Operator out of the Chatsworth Division.

In 2011, while working with the HESD he met his wife, Maricela. On January 11, 2014, Daniel and Maricela were married in their South Oxnard home. In December 2015, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Pauline. In January 2018, they welcomed their second child, a son named Matthew.

In 2016, Daniel ran for Oxnard City Council promoting his positive message of “Protecting our families, quality of life and most importantly OUR future.” Although he lost his election in 2016 he was able to gain 6,533 votes for his first time running for office.

Since his 2016 election, Daniel has advocated for safer communities, more jobs, improved infrastructure, affordable housing, solutions to homelessness, and a need for transparency and good governance.

While on council he will focus on the following items.

PROTECT PUBLIC SAFETY BUDGET

With budget cuts, we saw crime increase and last year Oxnard had a 25% increase in violent crimes (Homicides).

REFORM POLITICAL POLICIES

Implement Campaign Finance Reform to end special interest money and Councilmember term limits to end career politicians.

ESTABLISH A STRATEGIC PLAN

We need a clear path for Oxnard and to stay focused on important issues. Stakeholders should be able to clearly track city progress.

REQUEST DEVELOPERS USE A MINIMUM OF 45% LOCAL EMPLOYEES

We need to get OUR local residents back to work and invest in Oxnard’s economy.

CREATE A STRONG ECONOMIC ENGINE Establish a business-friendly community. Search out partnerships with the private sector to assist with projects.

UPDATE RESERVES AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS (CIP) POLICIES Establish that 25% be the minimum for reserve funds for all accounts. Establish timelines for CIPs replacement/repairs to protect our infrastructure.

RESTRUCTURE ECONOMIC AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENTS The only way to improve Oxnard’s economy is to get our house in order first. We need responsive, efficient operations from our city departments. Reform policies and streamline the application process.

HOMELESSNESS

Establish a transitional housing program to address homelessness in Oxnard. Establish an Oxnard Conservation Program to employ homeless individuals.
