Oxnard crime situation

Oxnard crime has risen significantly since 2011 and is up 26% just in the last year. Police Chief Jeri Williams and staff will present the attached report at the Tuesday April 7 City Council meeting. There will be discussion of crime statistics, possible causes and what to do about it.

A possible cause:
Hundreds of thousands of felons have been released because of court-ordered overcrowding-related releases, Proposition 47 mandates and massive releases of illegal immigrant felons via executive action. Hundreds of them are right in Oxnard, probably more than records indicate. Police have told us that a relatively small hard-core criminal element accounts for most of the crimes and that it is frustrating to keep arresting them and see them released again.

The crime numbers seem to be equally proportioned to the population. There is an adage, figures don’t lie, but lairds figure. During the presentation, the police cheif made a statment how the police department has not had an increase in personell. I beleive an additional 10 to 20 positions were added using Measure O. If the city has had 2,700 domestic violance cals for service, what has the police department done through its special unit, to help mediate these issues. Police officers are not usually trained to help resolve domestic violance issues, but people who have master degrees in Social Work (MSW) probable are.
