Oxnard election winners sworn in- no change to the Council

By George Miller

After approving the vote canvass from Ventura County Elections Division, the Council authorized swearing in re-elected Mayor Tim Flynn  and Councilmembers Carmen Ramirez (who topped the council vote by far, as previously reported) and Bert Perello. Perello barely squeaked in by only 10 votes over opponent former Navy Chief of Surface Naval Warfare Steve Huber. Haas Automation Controller Aaron Starr was 2 points behind those two and four more trailed them substantially.

Mayor Flynn was the big vote getter, re-elected with nearly 60% of the vote in a three-way race with Councilman Bryan MacDonald and long-time activist and independent accountant Larry Stein. He almost immediately re-appointed Ramirez as Mayor Pro-Tem (stands in for the Mayor when absent), because she “has qualities he best likes to see representing the city.” He then hastened to say that the others have very fine qualities as well, or words to that effect. See previous Oxnard election  article.

They each went on to say inspiring things and were joined in words by other Council Members and some members of the public, followed by  a break for a mini-party with a really tasty cake and punch …

Marisela also walked with her grandpa Dan Pinedo as he knocked on doors on Anita Avenue in La Colonia neighborhood asking for support for Bert (below) ….
