Oxnard Gang Member Convicted of Attempted Vehicle Burglary and Driving a Stolen Vehicle

Jovanny Hernandez (DOB 7/8/88), of Oxnard, has been sentenced to 9 years 8 months in prison for one count of attempted vehicle burglary, and one count of unlawful driving of a vehicle. Hernandez was also convicted of a special allegation charging a criminal street gang enhancement. Hernandez suffered one prior strike conviction which was also a serious felony prior conviction.

On March 9, 2015, officers from the Oxnard Police Department street enforcement unit witnessed Hernandez, a Southside Chiques gang member, attempt to break into three separate parked vehicles. During his arrest, Hernandez had several shaved keys in his pocket, which are commonly used as tools to break into vehicles. He also had a sharp metal object used to start ignitions when stealing vehicles.

On April 24, 2015, while out on bail, Hernandez was captured on a gas station surveillance video with a stolen vehicle. Oxnard Police officers later identified Hernandez as the individual in the video.
