Totten announced today that Superior Court Judge Matthew Guasco sentenced Alexander Baez (DOB 12/05/89), of Oxnard, to serve 16 years four months in state prison. A jury convicted Baez in March of two counts of kidnapping in violation of Penal Code section 207(a). The jury also found Baez guilty of one count of resisting an officer with force or violence in violation of Penal Code section 69, and one count of violating the colonia chiques gang injunction in violation of Penal Code section 166(a)(9). The court also found that Baez had suffered a prior strike conviction and other special allegations.

Baez was arrested on October 19, 2015, after jumping into the backseat of a vehicle and ordering the driver to keep driving. Nearby Oxnard Police officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and Baez attempted to flee. Baez physically fought with the officers until he was detained in handcuffs and taken into custody. Baez was on parole and probation at the time.
