VENTURA, California – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Edgar Mendoza (DOB 06/09/85), of Oxnard, has been charged with the murder of Jorge Maldonado, of Oxnard. The complaint charge includes the special allegation that Mendoza personally used a knife in the commission of the crime.
On August 15, 2021, Mr. Maldonado was fatally stabbed at Del Sol Park in Oxnard. This case was investigated by the Oxnard Police Department, with assistance from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Mendoza appeared in Ventura County Superior Court today for arraignment and pled not guilty to the charges. The case was continued to February 22, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13 for a bail review hearing. An early disposition conference is set for March 21, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12. Maldonado is currently in custody with no bail set.
