Oxnard Man Found Guilty in Hit-and-Run Murder

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today that Juan Dedios Gallegos III (DOB 3/12/1993), of Oxnard, was found guilty by a jury of second degree murder for the hit-and-run killing of Michael James Holley of Oxnard. The jury also found true that Gallegos personally used his pickup truck as a deadly weapon.

On May 23, 2019, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Oxnard Police Department officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian in the west alley of the 2000 block of Mariposa Street in Oxnard. The Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate the suspicious nature of the collision. The investigation revealed that Mr. Holley’s blood was located on Gallegos’ truck. A surveillance video of the events leading up to the murder and witness statements demonstrated that Gallegos intentionally struck and killed Mr. Holley.

Gallegos will remain in custody at the Ventura County jail pending sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for December 9, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 47 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Gallegos faces a maximum sentence of 36 years to life in prison.

He purposefully hit someone and ran. He’s a murdering coward. I don’t care what color you are, you deserve life imprisonment. It’s too bad prior cases received less. It should be a standard if you kill a person with a weapon and its not self defense, you should receive life.
